Inspired by the outstanding clinical work of a UCSF Medical
Center staff member, Campaign for UCSF Co-Chair Arthur H. Kern
has made a gift to help establish an endowed chair in the UCSF
School of Nursing. This will be the first endowed chair named
in honor of a UCSF nurse.
With matching funds from the School, Kern's $250,000 contribution
creates the Sharon A. Lamb Endowed Chair in Nursing. The chair
honors Sharon Lamb, RN, a clinical nurse at UCSF Medical Center.
Kern, who met Lamb nearly 20 years ago while volunteering
for the National Brain Tumor Foundation, says that the chair
recognizes her exceptional talent and the many lives she has
touched.
"Sharon is both a gifted nurse and an extraordinary
person, loved by all who are lucky enough to come under her
care," Kern explains.
Endowed chairs and distinguished professorships help the
School of Nursing attract and retain world-class faculty,
providing prestige to the chair holder and ongoing support
for staff, equipment and other costs associated with his or
her work.
"The establishment of this endowed chair marks an important
milestone for the School as we seek to create more chairs
and professorships in support of our excellent faculty,"
says School of Nursing Dean Kathleen A. Dracup, RN, FNP, DNSc,
FAAN. "Art Kern's decision to name the chair for a UCSF
nurse makes this gift doubly significant."
The Lamb Chair will support the research, teaching and service
activities of a School of Nursing faculty member working in
the area of symptom management.
