We are pleased to highlight the following gifts and pledges
received during August 2004:
- Donna K. and Frederick Fluegel have made a generous
pledge to support pediatric diabetes research and clinical
care as determined by Stephen E. Gitelman, MD, associate
professor of clinical pediatrics at the UCSF School of Medicine.
- The Estate of Shirley C. Freund has made a distribution
of $100,000 to establish a scholarship fund at the UCSF
School of Dentistry. Scholarships generated by this fund
will honor the memory of Freund's father, Frank G. Casella,
a 1922 graduate of the School.
- The Miriam and Peter Haas Fund has made a pledge
of $225,000 to support research, academic and clinical activities
at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine.
- Quality of Life Health Programs has made a pledge
of $500,000 to benefit programs at the UCSF Center for Health
and Community, including the new Center for Obesity Research
and Education.
- Sharon and Donley Ritchey have made a pledge of
$100,000 to establish the Sharon and Donley Ritchey Endowed
Lectureship in the department of orthopaedic surgery at
the UCSF School of Medicine.
- Joyce and Lawrence J. Stupski have pledged $1.5
million to support the Cardiac Stem Cell Translational Development
Program, a research and education initiative led by Program
Director Yerem Yeghiazarians, MD, and William Grossman,
MD, chief of the UCSF department of medicine's division
of cardiology and holder of the Meyer Friedman Distinguished
Professorship in Medicine.
