A recent pledge of $1 million by the Herbst Foundation, Inc.,
will name the student life center at the UCSF Mission Bay
campus.
The Herbst Center for Students and Postdoctoral Scholars
is slated to occupy a significant portion of the third floor
of Mission Bay's Campus Community Center, scheduled for completion
in early 2005. Visitors will be directed to the center by
signage visible within the Community Center's spacious atrium.
Two suites in the 7,000-square-foot facility will house a
diverse array of services for University students:
- The East Suite will feature a view of Koret Quad and contain
offices for several administrative services, including financial
aid, career advising and student government.
- The West Suite will be home to facilities for medical
care, health education and mental health counseling. This
suite will also include an X-ray laboratory and a small
pharmacy.
The Herbst Foundation's commitment continues a long tradition
of gifts to support student and patient facilities at UCSF.
Past contributions from the Foundation have named the Herbst
Auditorium and the Herbst Cancer Care Floor, both at the UCSF
Medical Center at Mount Zion.
"Supporting community-oriented facilities and services
that strengthen education and health is central to our mission,"
notes Herbst Foundation President Melvyn Mark. "We are
especially pleased to partner with UCSF in the development
of San Francisco's newest neighborhood at Mission Bay."
