Monthly Gift Highlights

We are pleased to highlight a few recently received gifts, grants, and pledges:
  • A grant of $144,550 from the Archstone Foundation to the UCSF School of Nursing's Institute for Health and Aging will fund a study of influenza and pneumonia prevention in long-term care facilities for the elderly in California.
  • A gift of $50,000 from the Cienna & Friends Childhood Cancer Foundation will support translational, laboratory, and clinical research aimed at advancing pediatric neuroblastoma research and treating children with the disease. Larry and Janene Jaramillo started the Foundation in honor of their daughter, Cienna, and have contributed nearly $183,000 to the neuroblastoma research of Katherine Matthay, MD.
  • A grant of just over $6 million has been made by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for the JDRF Collaborative Center for Cell Therapy. The grant will support the work of Jeff Bluestone, PhD, director of UCSF's Diabetes Center and A.W. and Mary Margaret Clausen Distinguished Professor of Metabolism and Endocrinology, as well as the work of his colleagues.
