Dining by Design Boosts AIDS Research at UCSF

Nearly 530 guests gathered at San Francisco Design Center's Galleria on November 2 for Elle Decor's "Dining by Design" gala, an event benefiting Positive Health, an AIDS program at San Francisco General Hospital.

Presented by GE and produced by DIFFA—the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS—the event featured more than 50 lavish, whimsical, and romantic dining environments uniquely created for this event by designers from fields such as architecture, fashion, food, landscape, and retail. The evening featured a reception in which guests could stroll among the unique table environments, a silent auction, and an elegant seated dinner.

This elegant table was designed by John Stewart and Michael Rayner and sponsored by McRae & Company, a tradeshow and conference management company.

Banana Chase 5K & 10K Brings Hope to
Pediatric AIDS Patients

Pediatric AIDS research at UCSF got a boost last September with the Eighth Annual Banana Chase 5K & 10K. Staged from Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park, the race featured some of the fastest 5K and 10K runners in the United States as well as thousands of recreational runners. After the Banana Chase, kids ages 3-18 joined in the fun with the Whole Foods Market Young Champions Races. Event founders Peter and Polly St. Geme also recently gave $10,000 to support the work of UCSF pediatric AIDS researcher Diane Wara, MD.

Young runners participate in the event.

Dinner Honors San Francisco Philanthropist
Jeannik Littlefield

UCSF Chancellor J. Michael Bishop, MD, hosted a dinner in October at the Huntington Hotel to honor noted San Francisco philanthropist Jeannik Littlefield.
