Internationally acclaimed entertainer Bette Midler will perform at the biennial "Raising Hope" gala, which will take place on Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus.
One of San Francisco's most popular social events, "Raising Hope" generates funds for the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center. Midler's decision to participate is a remarkable testament to the Cancer Center's exceptional work in advancing health worldwide.
Midler has garnered accolades in all quarters of show business, earning four Grammy Awards including Song of the Year and Record of the Year, two Academy Award nominations, three Emmy's, one Tony, three Golden Globes, and nine American Comedy Awards.
The black-tie evening will also feature a cocktail reception, live auction, and gourmet dinner—set in an elegant, tented environment created by legendary San Francisco designer Stanlee Gatti.
Since its inception in 1996, "Raising Hope" has generated almost $17 million to fund the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center's research, clinical care, and community health initiatives. The event is co-chaired by UCSF Foundation board members Nanci Fredkin and Cathy Podell and coordinated by the UCSF Cancer Council, a volunteer committee that supports the Center through fundraising events, educational programs, and advocacy.
