We are pleased to highlight several recently received gifts:
- A pledge of $100,000 from Faustino Bernadett Jr., MD, and Martha Molina Bernadett, MD, will support student scholarships in the Program in Medical Education for the Urban Underserved (PRIME-US). Faustino Bernadett is a member of the School of Medicine Class of 1980.
- A gift of more than $67,500 from William Dworsky, MD, will support medical student scholarships in honor of his School of Medicine Class of 1958, which is celebrating its 50th reunion this year.
- A gift of $50,000 from Caroline and Paul "Pete" Giers, DDS, will support an endowed scholarship for students in the School of Dentistry. Pete Giers is a 1961 alumnus of the school.
- A gift of $150,000 from Donna and John Shoemaker will advance the effort to upgrade the Peter R. Carroll, MD, Endowed Chair in Urologic Oncology to a distinguished professorship, UCSF's highest faculty honor. Current holder of the chair is Robert Blelloch, MD, PhD, whose research is expanding the understanding of the genetic and biological basis of cancer, which may lead to new cancer treatments.
- A gift of $50,000 from Rebecca and Howard Slusher to the UCSF Cardiology Division will support cardiac research under the direction of Kanu Chatterjee, MD.
- A gift of $197,000 from the Staglin Music Festival for Mental Health will support research faculty in child mental health.
