We are pleased to highlight several recently received gifts:
- In honor of their 50th School of Medicine reunion, the following individuals joined with William Dworsky, MD, (see February 2008 Philanthropy Insider) and many other classmates to help create the Class of 1958 Endowed Scholarship Fund, which supports students with financial need: Carlton E. Conrad, MD, a $53,230 charitable gift annuity; Herbert H. Dedo, MD, a $10,000 gift; Michael F. Hein, MD, a $10,000 pledge; and Donald L. Morton, MD, a $10,000 gift.
- A pledge of $25,000 from Amelia H. Kaymen, MD, and Eric Yopes will support the John H. Epstein Master Teacher Endowed Chair in the Department of Dermatology. Kaymen did her dermatology residency at UCSF, and serves as one of the campaign co-chairs for the Epstein Master Teacher Endowed Chair.
- A gift of $25,000 from Laura C. Knight, MD, and Philip J. Knight, MD, Class of 1968, given in honor of their 40th reunion, will support the School of Medicine’s Clinical Skills Center, a resource where medical students, residents and faculty learn and expand their clinical skills.
- A gift of $50,000 from Steven J. Scarpa will support the research of kidney transplant specialist Flavio Vincenti, MD, in the Division of Nephrology.
- Gifts totaling $150,000 from Peter Thiel will support the work of Cynthia Kenyon, PhD, internationally recognized pioneer in the science of aging.
- A gift of $67,500 from the Ronald and Ann Williams Charitable Foundation will support nursing fellowships at the UCSF School of Nursing.
